Congratulations on taking the first step and coming along to our first meeting! Don’t worry – everyone is nervous at first. What matters is you are here, taking real action towards becoming an amazing presenter, communicator, and leader.
A Toastmasters meeting presents a multitude of opportunities to speak, from impromptu table topics, to dedicated roles. Our regular meetings are centred around 2-4 prepared speeches. Each speaker delivers 5-7 minutes of content guided by the educational pathway selected within the Toastmasters Education Program.
Typical meeting roles explained
Toastmaster – runs the meeting, introduces speakers and handles on-the-night organisation.
Speakers – presents 5-7 minute speeches on topics of their choosing. Preparation is key.
Table Topics Master – elicits 3-6 impromptu 1-2 minute speeches from audience members.
Grammarian – introduces a word of the day, tracks language use, and presents a report.
Warm Up Master – guides the entire room through a vocal warmup, 20s per person.
Evaluators – each speech is evaluated to celebrate accomplishments and guide improvement.
Table Topics Evaluator – delivers a short evaluation for each table topic presented.
Timer – tracks our timing, you’ll find the target times of every speaker on the agenda.
General evaluator – evaluates everything that takes place during the club meeting.
